GI Registration & the BCHPB
The Bodo Culture and Heritage Preservation Board (BCHPB) was established in 2022 to protect and promote the culture, heritage and unique products of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Assam. The Board spearheaded the Geographical Indication (GI) registration drive that secured GI status for 21 traditional Bodo products, working closely with community associations and GI experts. It was formerly known as the Bodo Geographical Indication Board.
Ownership note: The 21 Geographical Indication registrations are held by five community associations of Bodo weavers, musicians, food producers and brewers, with the registration process facilitated by the Bodo Culture and Heritage Preservation Board (BCHPB). Bodoland GI Products and Handloom Centre Trust works to document, promote and support these GI products and their artisan communities โ it does not itself own the GI registrations.
