All 21 GI-registered Bodo products share a single geographic home — the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam, in North-East India. The region spans five districts along the foothills of the eastern Himalayas.
A homeland of living traditions
The Bodoland Territorial Region is an autonomous region administered by the Bodoland Territorial Council in the state of Assam. Its fertile plains, rivers and forests have nurtured the weaving, music, cuisine and brewing traditions that the Geographical Indication tags now protect.
Kokrajhar
Administrative headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Region and a historic centre of Bodo culture.
Chirang
Home district of the Trust, with a strong tradition of weaving and traditional food.
Baksa
Known for its handloom villages and agrarian heritage along the Himalayan foothills.
Udalguri
A vibrant weaving and agricultural belt of the eastern BTR.
Tamulpur
The newest district of the BTR, rich in indigenous farming and craft traditions.
